Standish Cricket Club has undertaken a significant programme of investment and renovation, transforming its facilities to provide an improved environment for players, members and the wider cricket community.

As part of this wider redevelopment, which includes the refurbishment and improvement of the clubhouse and surrounding club facilities, the club has invested in a new three-lane, fully enclosed cricket practice facility.

The new facility has been designed to provide a modern, versatile and durable training environment, supporting players of all ages and abilities while providing coaches with the flexibility to deliver a wide range of training sessions. The three-lane layout allows multiple players and groups to train simultaneously, making it suitable for everything from junior coaching and individual skills development through to senior team preparation.

A key feature of the facility is the combination of two of our ECB-approved cricket systems: the Premier System and Test Match System. Incorporating both systems provides Standish Cricket Club with different playing characteristics within the same facility, allowing players to experience and develop their skills across a variety of conditions.

The Test Match System features an advanced AP10 shock pad, which helps to minimise surface wear caused by repeated ball impacts. This is supported by a 10mm dust stone layer, creating one of the most sophisticated designs available for cricket practice facilities. The system provides a high-quality, responsive playing surface designed to support realistic cricket practice and match preparation.

Alongside this, the Premier System builds upon the Test Match construction by incorporating an additional layer between the hard porous aggregate and the AP10 shock pad. This helps provide consistent bounce for players of all ages, while also enhancing the surface's response to spin and seam play. This makes the system particularly well suited to a busy club environment where players at different stages of their development train throughout the season.

The facility has also been finished with a distinctive two-tone olive and dark green carpet, creating a smart, contemporary appearance while complementing the club's wider refurbishment. The contrasting tones help define the individual practice areas and give the facility a clean, professional finish.

Both systems incorporate RBG Tex layers, which help prevent contamination within the construction while contributing to the durability and longevity of the playing surfaces. This ensures the facility is built to withstand the demands of regular use by the club's junior and senior sections.

The fully enclosed design also incorporates built-in white netting behind the bowler, which acts as an integrated sight screen. This provides batters with a clear visual background and creates a more focused, match-like environment during practice.

The completed cricket facility forms an important part of Standish Cricket Club's wider renovation project. Alongside the improvements to the clubhouse and wider club environment, the new practice facility provides the club with a modern and high-quality base from which to develop its players, support its coaches and encourage participation in cricket at all levels.

With three fully enclosed lanes, two ECB-approved playing systems, durable RBG Tex construction, a two-tone olive and dark green carpet and an integrated sight screen, the new facility represents a significant investment in the future of Standish Cricket Club and provides a versatile training environment designed to support the club for years to come.
